The Season for Sparkles

I love everything about the holiday season.  Spending time with family, the food, all of the decorations and of course the parties.

While looking at a post on Sarah Vickers' blog, "Classy Girls Wear Pearls" last week, I immediately noticed her shoes.  {To be fair - this happens almost every day and not with just her shoes!  Her style is amazing.}  But, this specific day documented what looked like a very fun party and she was wearing a pair of sparkly platform heels from Nine West.  I knew they would be just perfect for this year's holiday parties.

They arrived yesterday at my door and I can't wait to wear them out this evening to a black tie dinner I am attending.  I just hope I don't fall over.

What Color Are You?

I've loved horses for as long as I can remember, so it is no surprise that one of my favorite brands is Ralph Lauren.  It started with the logo, but as I grew up, so did my love of fashion and I came to appreciate the classic lines in every collection.

Just recently, 4 new women's fragrances were added to The Big Pony line and I immediately wanted to try them.  The bright, bold bottles have an energy that compliments the women who they are meant for.  But instead of simply describing the notes and nuances of the fragrance in words, Ralph Lauren has created a great Facebook application to help you choose which one is right for you.

The Life in Color Quiz

Click on the link above and you are taken to a Facebook-hosted application with a series of questions.  But they aren't simple multiple choice!  It is as if you are being told a story, and you can really feel characteristics in the choices.  A clear answer for each question stuck out to me based on my personal style.  At the end of the "quiz" the application puts together a personalized video leading up to the reveal of your recommended fragrance.

Not bad!  Sounds like a fun girl to be!  Even if you are not in the market for fragrance, this is a great a fun application and a great way to interact with the brand.  The only thing the application left me wanting was a way to imbed the actual video on my blog or share it on my Facebook wall.  

I haven't had a chance to smell the fragrances yet, so the jury is officially still out, but good or bad, it was fun finding out which one was meant for me!

2012 Sag Awards

I was lucky enough to attend the Sag Awards when I lived in LA, and everything they say about this being the most fun award show of the season is true.  The actors all seem to be having a great time together catching up and seeing old friends.  It truly felt like a reunion more than a work event as much of the season does.

Last night's festivities did not disappoint.  From Tina Fey chugging Steve Buscemi's wine after the ladies from Bridesmaids turned the evening into a drinking game to Betty White's {slightly undeserved} acceptance speech, it was all a good time.  And there were some very touching moments too; the cast of "The Help" won a VERY well-deserved ensemble cast award, and its leading ladies, Viola Davis and Octavia spencer were rightfully honored as well.  I hope they are both busy prepping their Oscar acceptance speeches!

Of course, as always, the fashion was worth admiring.  There were so many good looks this year it was hard to pick my favorites!  {I'm focusing on the ladies today and only showing the looks I liked.  While there were a few ensembles that left something to be desired, I've always been a bit opposed to "Worst Dressed" lists.  Who hasn't had a bad day?}

Sue Devitt Beauty

I don't wear a lot of makeup on a day to day basis.  But one of my go-to products for everyday is the Eye Intensifier Pencil from Sue Devitt Beauty.

My first experience with Sue Devitt was about 10 years ago when I randomly found her products at a counter in the mall.  The first two items I tried out were; a liquid eye shadow {now discontinued} and this pencil.  From the first time I lined my eyes, I could feel the difference in how the color went on.  I was very surprised at how smoothly the pencil glided along my lashes as I applied the color.  Even after a fresh sharpening, there is no pulling at my lash line.  The pencil is also soft enough to be used as a shadow in addition to a more defined liner.  I haven't mastered it yet, but when I am traveling this is great for paring down my makeup bag.  In addition to the soft feel and versitility, I love the great color choices.   Check them out here.  My current favorite are: Golden Triangle {an olive greenish} and Ava {a purple.}

I was also given the Hydrating Marine Minerals Destination Eye Pallette in Kinimanjaro {shades of purple} for Christmas and I am looking forward to trying it on my next night out.  The mix of colors is going to create a nice smoky eye.

The line has now extended to many other great products aside from traditional makeup items including skin care, fragrance and brushes.  Sue Devitt herself, a celebrity makeup artist, also gives beauty tips on the site so people can re-create her beautiful red carpet looks.

23rd Annual Producers Guild of America Awards

It may not be the high profile televised awards event that the Academy Awards or the Golden Globes are, but every year the Producers Guild of America honors some very important behind the scenes work in motion pictures, television and the internet.  These honorees aren't always the marquee names that draw people to the silver screen and television week after week, but they are a driving force behind the media that we all love.  Producers have the {sometimes very difficult} responsibility of keeping the project moving and are involved from initial concept to premiere.  If things don't go according to plan, it is often their financial interests at stake, and even worse, they often have to worry about the financial interests of others.

It's Awards Season!

I know I am a few days late with my Golden Globes post, but I was so excited for the first of the many awards shows this season.  When I lived in LA, even though I was never invited to any of the ceremonies, I still could feel the energy that took over the town on an award day.  It is one of the things I definitely miss most!  There may be a lot going on in LA but Hollywood still rules the day, especially on a night like the Golden Globes.

December Photo Project 12.13.11: Christmas Centerpieces

I recently had a dinner party and found myself without a centerpiece.  Originally I had planned to use some red Christmas ornaments in a glass vase, but they were too big and the nesting was a bit awkward.  Finding myself in a crunch, I looked around my apartment to see what I could quickly throw together to put in the middle of the table.


To start, I grabbed a shallow baking dish from the cabinet and set my two pillar candles and three Christmas votive candle holders inside.  Having already finished the candy portion of my decorating I then covered the bottom of the dish with M&Ms and Hershey Kisses.  I tend to keep this candy around all through the holidays and now I have a (semi) legit reason!


In the end I was happy with what I put together.  The grouping was much better than the ornaments and ended up being a very easy way to decorate the table.

The only draw back was that people were munching on candy throughout my meal and the chocolate did get a little "melty" from the heat of the candles.


That was my centerpiece, but here are some other holiday tablescapes I have found in various places.  How I would love to have a meal at any of these tables!
